International House has a social coordinator who organises various activities, such as trips outside the college, conversation clubs, dinners, a school newspaper, sporting events and other activities that you can suggest. IH students can also join any of LUCT’s social and cultural groups.
This depends on the course. Please contact us for latest price list.
Our course lengths are determined by what you need to progress to the next level. Most courses are 30-100 hours, though this will depend on your needs.
At the end of most courses we have a test which examines all aspects of communication. This includes speaking, writing, listening, reading and grammar. During each course we also have regular tests and quizzes to give you feedback on your progress. This helps us identify which areas you need the most work in so your teacher can adapt the course as required.
On the successful completion of each course, you will receive an International House World Organisation Certificate which states the course you completed and the level of English you achieved. This is a useful certificate when applying to study in other institutions and applying for jobs. We also teach preparatory courses for internationally recognised Cambridge exams, TOEFL and for IELTS. On successful completion of these exams you receive a certificate from these institutions.
As we are teaching English as an International language, we have carefully selected our teachers from across the English speaking world. At present we have teachers from Australia, USA, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Malaysia and South Africa. In your time at International House you will be given the opportunity to be taught by a number of different teachers. This will help your understanding of different accents.
This depends greatly on the class and the group. As our courses take our students needs into account, so do our materials. The materials used in your classes will come from a wide range of resources.
International House has a policy of maintaining a maximum of 16 students per class, often less. This ensures that each student receives the personal attention they require, and allows the group to become close, thus promoting a more relaxed atmosphere to work in. We also have courses for small groups and 1:1 classes.

This depends a lot on your class, but all our classes focus on student participation. We believe that studying English requires students to communicate as much as possible. To stimulate this we do role plays, video work, use music in the class, use communication games and select our topics around your interests. It is important that the student plays an active role in the class.
If grammar is a need of the class then we will teach grammar in class. Grammar though is not a separate part of English. but a necessary part of communicating. Grammar will usually be integrated into other skills such as speaking, listening, reading and writing. Our teachers are not lecturers, but will introduce and practice grammar in enjoyable ways.
This depends a lot on your current level of English. If you join our intensive classes your English will improve faster. As our classes focus on your needs, we concentrate on the areas of English that you require.
On your first day you will be given a placement test to determine your level. You will also be interviewed to find out what you hope to achieve during your time at International House. After this you will be placed in the class and the level that is most appropriate to your situation.
